We went on a Saturday and read that a few of the sections would be closed due to a roof issue but they had a load of activities for the kids and the exhibitions were great, we were really impressed. Cafe wasn't too expensive and will definitely come back. Staff were super friendly and explained loads to us, thanks guys.

Fascinating Museum with a Great Collection
The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is an absolute delight! The building itself is stunning, and the collection inside is just as impressive. From towering dinosaur skeletons to beautiful geological displays, there’s so much to see and learn.
The exhibits are well laid out and informative, making it easy to explore at your own pace. I was especially excited to see the dodo — but sadly, it wasn’t on display during my visit. Still, there was so much else to enjoy that it didn’t take away from the experience.
If you’re in Oxford, this museum is definitely worth a visit!

Free admission to this one. There are plenty of skeletons from dinosaurs to mammals, and many exhibits of animals. There were even taxidermies of bears that you could touch, and you can tell that a lot of people were doing it because the bear noses looked well polished. Many informative and educational explanations.

I came to the Oxford Natural History Museum for my A-Level coursework, expecting to study the exhibits and gather research—only to be denied entry and banned simply because we were part of a school trip. Are you serious? A museum, meant to be an institution of learning, actively turning away students who are there for educational purposes?
Nowhere on the website did it say that school groups weren’t allowed, and we traveled all this way only to be treated like a nuisance. Staff were dismissive and unhelpful, offering no reasonable explanation other than some vague policy that wasn’t clearly advertised. If anything, school groups should be encouraged, not punished for wanting to learn.
Absolutely appalling experience—what kind of “educational” institution bars students from accessing knowledge? If you’re a student hoping to visit for coursework, don’t bother. They clearly don’t want young people engaging with science and history.

I came here with my school, to explore the museum as crucial research for my A Level photography coursework. We were refused entry because we 'came in in too big of a group'. We offered to go back out and walk back in pairs however we were told we were now banned from the museum and the Pitt Rivers Exhibition. This has ruined our school trip and we are very disappointed that our plans for the day are tarnished. We also saw a primary school of about 30 children be allowed in, but we were refused. Very disappointed and expected much better.

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in science, history, and the wonders of the natural world. The stunning Victorian Gothic architecture alone is worth the visit, with its beautiful glass ceiling allowing natural light to illuminate the incredible exhibits.
The museum houses an impressive collection of fossils, minerals, and zoological specimens, including the famous dinosaur skeletons and the remains of the Oxford Dodo. The interactive displays make learning engaging for visitors of all ages, and the staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
One of the best things about this museum is that entry is free, making it an excellent place for families, students, and tourists looking for an enriching experience. Whether you're fascinated by ancient fossils, dazzling gemstones, or the history of scientific discovery, this museum offers something for everyone.
Highly recommended for a day out in Oxford!

Great hidden gem. So interested and not as busy as the London natural history museum. Displays are so interactive and so many mini museums under one roof. Great place to visit. Chai latte was awesome from the vendor outside.
